How to make conditioning not boring

the rack front door

When we first think of conditioning, most of us first think just of a bunch of running or endless cardio equipment. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. There are endless ways to make conditioning fun and purposeful. Here are a couple of examples of machines most people are probably familiar with: Ellipticals, Row Ergometers, and of course treadmills. Other machines that may include Ski ergometer, Air Dyn, and Bike ergometer. Programming these pieces of equipment may include sprints, intervals, short and long distances. But if you are not a huge fan of machines, here are some other conditioning variations to try.

One is to carry something light to very heavy. You can use a medicine ball, dumbbells, kettlebells, your pet dog and just go. Go for distance, time, intervals, etc. Another is to push a sled, prowler, or your car for the same protocols listed earlier. Don’t want to push, pull the same equipment as previously stated. Other non-traditional means may include tires, sledgehammers, or even both at the same time! What also makes these great is that they can be done indoors and outdoors. So, go outside and get some of that beautiful fresh air, because you are going to need it after using these pieces of equipment. If you need ideas or specific protocols tailored to your needs and goals, don’t hesitate to reach out to a coach today!
